PEACE ATHLETEShugaa Nashwan

Judo Paralympian · Yemen 2020 · Nine travellers on the road

I went to Yemen looking for a peace centre. Then I understood it was never missing.

My name is Shugaa — it means courage in Arabic. I am a blind Paralympic judoka from Hannover, and PEACE ATHLETE is what grew out of that: a movement that starts inside a person and reaches as far as the soil, the road, and the people who need it.

What your support does

Feed a family in Yemen

Yemeni soil is exhausted. Supporting the farmers there is what makes them independent — not charity, but the means to stand on their own.

Keep the story visible

The Yemen journey became 44 paintings and a film. Visibility is the mechanism — a bigger exhibition means more reach, and more reach means more support for the ground work.

Finish the trailer

Nine people are living out of a self-built trailer on the road. Solar, provisions and equipment are what turn a plan into a journey.

Figures are placeholders until the programme is costed. We will publish the real numbers before we ask for money again.

If you are against existence, you are in war. If you are with existence, you are in peace.

The peace centre is you

Before anything becomes visible, it has to be established in you. That has never needed permission, and it has never needed a large budget. Bring what you have — a few euros, an hour, a shirt, a question. Bring a friend.
